Replacing O Rings on Valves is not a good idea
Replacing O Rings on Valves is not a good idea. It might initially seems like the quick and cheap solution but if it was that simple then Tap manufacturers that produce their own parts would sell these separately. They don’t.
WHY ?
If you are repairing the Valve in your Tap, then your Tap is dripping from the Handle or the Tip of the Spout (where the aerator is fitted). Here is our comprehensive guide to explain main causes as to why your Kitchen Tap is dripping.
- A Ceramic Disc Valve is made up of many individual parts, including ceramic discs. A faulty valve usually occurs when an internal part has been damaged or worn over time.
- With a compression valve, there is a thick rubber disc on the underside. This can get worn and as it wears, more and more pressure is applied by turning the valve to stem the flow of water around this rubber disc. The only reason why you would try and source a rubber disc of the exact size to fit to your existing valve would be as a last resort if your own valve was discontinued. Even if you replace the rubber disc, you have no idea how much wear and tear has also occurred inside your valve. If you replace with an entirely new valve from your tap manufacturer then you will know that all the working parts of your valve are brand new.
O Rings for the end of the Spout : We do supply these rubber O Rings separately from the Spout Part. These are unique to the Spout on your Tap (but the same Spout can be used in many different models). The easiest way to identify which O Ring Kit you require, if you do not know the model of your Tap, is to email us information.
