Replacing Franke Ascona Tap Valve

Keep your Ascona Tap functioning efficiently and prevent further leaks by regularly maintaining and replacing any worn or faulty parts.
Remember to turn off the water supply before attempting any repairs and consult a professional if you are unsure about how to proceed.

If you are replacing your Franke Ascona Tap Valve

then your Tap is dripping from either the end of the Spout (Aerator end) or from the Handle.

  • Here are images of Franke Ascona Tap and Franke Ascona Tap with U Spout (both take same valves).
  • Please check and compare to your own Tap in case you have a different Tap i.e. Not the Ascona Tap.

  • Valves are quarter turn with ceramic discs, also known as  Glands. They will have SMR or San Marco stamped on them.
  • Measurements:
    • Height 38mm
    • Diameter at thread: 20mm
    • Splines: 28
  • Hot and Cold valves are NOT interchangeable, opening in different directions. A Hot Valve opens Clockwise.  A Cold Valve opens Anti-Clockwise.
  • If you do not know which Valve is at fault this Post here should assist you : How to tell which Valve needs replacing – Hot or Cold?

Which Valve is in my Ascona Tap & Why do I need to know this ?

The value in knowing which version of the Valve you have in your Tap is for the removal as you might need the Removal Tool 4013R if you have the earlier 3308R valve with the flat sides on the nut.

The Current Franke Ascona Valve information is a six sided valve SP3794 and can be removed without needing a special tool.

    • A 14 size Hex Key will remove it which you can buy in any DIY store (or ideally borrow !). [See in picture the six sides on the nut.]

  • If you have an older Franke Ascona Tap that specifies the SP3308 (aka 3308R) then you might find the Tool 4013R useful to remove this Valve.  The 3308R Valve has flat sides on the nut (see in the picture.]

  • Either Valve (we currently have both options in stock) will fit your Tap / Handle. So while they might look visually different in Nut design, both valves still work in your Ascona Tap.

How to remove the Ascona Tap Handle ?

  1. We recommend that you place a cloth or towel underneath to catch the screw as they are tiny and you don’t want to lose it.  But if you lose it you can of course buy one here.
  2. You will need a 2mm allen key (screw is located underneath the handle).  Please don’t attempt to try to guess the size of your Allen Key because if you damage a grub screw you might not be able to remove it.Click here to buy the allen key 2mm for the Handle and 2.5mm for the grub screw in your spout. Click here for 2mm Allen Key only
  3. Turn the screw anticlockwise to loosen it.
  4. There is a small white handle insert (separate part) that covers the top of the valve.

If your own needs replacing you can purchase that part SP3530 here.

  5. If you need to replace the Handle, you can buy the Franke Ascona Handle here (which comes complete with Grub screw)
  6. Here is our video showing how to remove a Handle that is fitted with a grub screw.

Removing the Valve

  1. Make sure to turn OFF the hot and cold water supply to the Tap.
  2. You screw out a valve ‘anti-clockwise’.
  3. As you loosen the valve some water may start to seep out. Don’t panic. It’s just some water left in the Tap chamber.  When the valve has been removed clean this chamber.
  4. Screw in the new valve, turning clockwise.
  5. Then repeat the above steps in reverse, finishing with tightening back the grub screw of the Handle.
  6. Turn back on your water.
