FAQ SMR Tap Valve 3561R
- Is this a Genuine Tap part ? Yes it is. It will have SMR or San Marco stamped on it.
- My installation guide lists SP3561 – Is this the same as 3561R ? Yes, its the exact same genuine part.
- Why is it important to replace with a genuine part rather than a cheaper compatible part that I can buy online? We see more frequently customers having issues with their tap handles slipping on a new ‘compatible’ valve. It can result in requiring a new handle AND another new (genuine) valve. The valves here are designed to fit your Tap and have been tried and tested by your Tap manufacturer.
- Why are there options to buy a 4276R valve as well as the 3561R valve? We recommend the 4276R (which is the ‘parent’ of the 3561R for specific models, or for older models. See below for more details.
- There is a white handle insert covering my valve ? Only a few select models, e.g some Michel Roux models, use a white handle insert with this valve. If you need it, it would be this part here.
- My Valve has a different coloured seal than the one you have sent me? See below 4276R
- My valve looks wider and completely different from the pictures here / the one I ordered ? Is the Bush stuck to your own Valve ? That is the round extra piece of Brass that surrounds the valve. Sometimes they can get stuck together and come out as one piece. See more details below . You can order the Bush part separately if needed. It is one Bush per Valve.
DIY Guides
- What size allen key do I need to remove the Handle ? Usually you will need a 2mm allen key which you can buy here although there are a small number of models using this valve that require the 2.5mm allen key which you can buy here. Loosen this screw to remove the handle. See below for our DIY Guides.
- What tools do I need to remove this valve ? Usually an adjustable spanner to grip the side of the nut will do.

San Marco 4276R Valve explained :
- The 4276R is the earlier version of the current 3561R (SP3561) valve.
- It comes with a thicker seal underneath and usually the seals are white (or recently, black) .
When to buy the 4276R instead of the 3561R
- If your own Tap is old e.g over 7 years old – buy the 4276R instead here
- If your old installation guide speciffies 2552R, 2307R or 1476R, buy the 4276R instead here

Valve Bush explained :
- It can be a common enough problem that when you remove your Kitchen Tap Valve it looks different than the valve in the picture (or the Valve that you purchased from us).
- It is most likely because the brass bush is still attached (assuming that you have the SMR valve 3561R in your own Tap).
- 3561R Valve and Brass Bush 3868R separate
- Here is the same Valve stuck inside the Brass Bush
- If the Valve is stuck inside the Brass Bush then you will have to separate them OR buy a Brass Bush as well.
- The Alba Tap only takes a bush on the hot water side, and that is a different bush , 3409R wh

Clockwise and Anti-Clockwise Valves and Bridge Lever Taps that take 3561R
When we describe a Valve as a Hot Valve, we mean a Valve that opens Clockwise. When we describe a Valve as a Cold Valve, we mean a Valve that opens Anti-clockwise. If you have a Standard Monobloc Tap i.e one tap hole cut out in your worktop / in your sink, then usually the CO (Hot) Valve operates your Hot Lever and ACO (Cold) Valve operates your Cold Lever.
However (and this is very important) : If you have a Bridge Mixer Tap with Levers i.e. two tap holes in your worktop / in your sink, then usually usually the ACO (Cold) Valve operates your Hot Lever and CO (Hot) Valve operates your Cold Lever. This is counter intuitive to what you would expect. If in doubt email us a picture of your own tap and we will advise...
In this tap the 'Hot' Valve means that it opens Clockwise to turn ON the water. A 'Cold' Valve opens Anti-Clockwise to turn ON the water.
To maintain your warranty and the longevity of your Tap you should replace any parts with only Genuine Spare Parts. "Genuine" means that it is coming from the manufacturer of your own Tap. You might see the word 'Compatible' used on other websites. You might even see same Part Code BUT "Compatible" means that it does NOT come from your own Tap manufacturer. Genuine Tap Parts means that the Parts have been tried and tested in your Tap model. It also guarantees that it will fit your own Tap correctly (provided that you have selected the correct replacement Part). We have had customers who fitted compatible parts in their taps and damaged other connecting parts in the process. It can work out more costly in the end to use Compatible parts. This is a Genuine Spare Part you are buying here.
