Genuine SMR Mini Tap Valve – Information
- Some installation guides will list this valve with letters SP at the start or letter R at the end. That change in letters is merely a change in internal suplier stock systems and not a change in the valve itself. It is the number part of the code that is the important part.
- This is the genuine SMR mini valve and will be stamped SMR. We explain below the difference between a Genuine Valve (you are buying here) and a Compatible Valve that is available to buy from other online suppliers.
- The SMR Mini Tap Valve 3794R (aka SP3794) is a 28 splined valve with a six sided nut. This was preceded by a similar 28 splined valve with a flat sided nut, 3308R (aka SP3308). Either will fit in your tap if you have the SMR Mini Valve to begin with but as we stock both, you can replace like for like.
- The Hot and Cold Valve are not interchangeable as one opens clockwise and the other opens anti-clockwise.
- There are other similar looking mini valves in taps, but are not the same as this valve here. If your own ‘mini’ valve is NOT stamped SMR / 28 splines, do not buy this valve here.
SMR Mini valve 3794R and SMR 3308R – What’s the difference ?
- You have two different valve options to choose from here.
- Both have the same key measurements and both have been used interchangeably over the years in your own Tap.
The Earlier SMR Mini valve was the 3308R (aka SP3308) version (which we still supply) .
- Measurements 3308R: Height: 38mm Diameter at thread: 20mm, Splines: 28, Nut Height: 9mm
- It usually comes with a white seal underneath.
- It has distinctive flat sides on the nut.
- The white seals are thicker than coloured versions, consider this option 3308R if your Tap is old or you have poor water.
- It can be harder to extract from your Tap (harder to grip with the two flat sides) and for same reason can be harder to fit. If your own Tap has the flat sided 3308R valve, you may need this tool here to remove the valve.
The Later SMR Mini valve 3794R (aka SP3794) with six sided nut.
- Measurements 3794R: Height: 38mm Diameter at thread: 20mm, Splines: 28, Nut Height: 5mm
- A six sided hex key usually is sufficient to remove / fit this valve.
- Some Tap models where the valve is so far inside the tap body (counter sunk) it can necessitate using a special tool to access the valve. You might need a 14mm socket and a ratchet.
FAQ:
- Is this a genuine SMR part ? Yes.
- I have no idea which SMR mini valve is in my tap ? Generally speaking, the valve changed from 3308R (SP3308) to 3794R (SP3794) c. 2013. That should give you some idea if you know when you purchased your own Tap. They are interchangeable in any case but there are just some different tools that might be needed depending on which one you have in your tap / which one you buy. See above.
- What size allen key will I need to loosen Handle grub screw? Depending on your own Tap model you will need either a 2mm allen key which you can buy here or a 2.5mm allen key you can buy here. Please don’t guess the grub screw. If you round off the grub screw you might not be able to remove it.
- Do your Valves come with the white plastic handle insert ? No. Depending on the Tap model this part can be either the 3530R or the 3537R. You will only need to replace this if your own is damaged e.g. slipping on the valve (it has grooves inside it that grip the splines on the valve). The white handle insert part is the same size in either code 3530R or 3537R. The KEY difference between these two codes is the size of the brass screw. If you need a new brass screw (which comes with the Tap Handle Insert Part contact us with your own Tap details for advice as to which white handle insert code to buy.
- If your Tap is dripping where the Spout meets the Base you might need to replace your O Ring Kit.

Difference between Genuine and Compatible ?
To maintain your warranty and the longevity of your Tap you should replace any parts with only Genuine Spare Parts. "Genuine" means that it is coming from the manufacturer of your own Tap. You might see the word 'Compatible' used on other websites. You might even see same Part Code BUT "Compatible" means that it does NOT come from your own Tap manufacturer. Genuine Tap Parts means that the Parts have been tried and tested in your Tap model. It also guarantees that it will fit your own Tap correctly (provided that you have selected the correct replacement Part). We have had customers who fitted compatible parts in their taps and damaged other connecting parts in the process. It can work out more costly in the end to use Compatible parts.
