It’s quite common for the valve you remove from your tap to look different from the one shown in the picture or the one you purchased. This is likely because the brass bush is still attached.
The brass bush may be needed when fitting a new tap valve, especially if the existing bush cannot be separated from the old valve. If you’re able to remove the old valve without taking off the bush, or if the leak stops simply by replacing the valve, you won’t need this part. In such cases, you can return the brass bush for a refund.

- Is this a Genuine Howdens Tap part ? Yes it is.
- How do I access the Valve? You need a 2mm allen key to loosen the grub screw underneath the handle. See below for our DIY Guides.
- How do I know which Valve to order? You need to determine where the drip is coming from e.g cold water feed or hot water feed. If in doubt, order a pair. There are more detailed tips / advice here. - My Valve has a different coloured seal than the one you have sent me? Due to modifications over the many years that this Tap has been in production, we supply the universal Garda Valve that covers all these changes. This is based on the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- My valve looks wider and completely different from the pictures here / the one I ordered ? Is the Bush stuck to your own Valve ? That is the round extra piece of Brass that surrounds the valve. Sometimes they can get stuck together and come out as one piece. See the images below. You can order the Bush part separately if needed. It is one Bush per Valve.
