Franke Zurich Filterflow Tap Dripping
This Franke Zurich Filterflow Tap Dripping DIY Guide is to assist you in identifying the parts needed to fix your dripping Franke Zurich FilterFlow Tap together with DIY instructions.
Usually a Tap is dripping from either (1) the spout (2) the handle (in which case you would replace the Valve or Cartridge) or (3) where the spout meets the base (in which case you would replace the black rubber O Rings at the base of the spout (called O Ring Kit).
Valve / Cartridge replacements :
The Zurich ‘Filter Tap’ Cold side takes a COLD Diverter Cartridge and the Hot Side takes a Valve 1212R / 3819R (also referred to by customers as a cartridge).
Also this guide here might help How to tell which Valve needs replacing Hot or Cold or Both?
Before you begin
Replacing the valves of a Filterflow tap is a straightforward procedure for any competent handyperson. However, should you have any doubts about your ability to tackle the task we suggest you engage a suitably qualified professional.
Tools required:
- 17mm ring spanner or a suitable adjustable spanner
- Slotted screw driver
- Plumbers grips OR cloth that you can put adjustable spanner over so as not to mark your handle
- Tool for accessing the Cold Diverter Cartridge if required.
Dripping from Hot side : Hot Valve information :
The valve change procedure– hot valve
- Turn off the hot water supply.
- Remove the index (A) from the centre of the handle by inserting a small flat bladed screwdriver at the edge and carefully prising it out.
- Unscrew and remove the handle retaining screw & place somewhere that you won’t lose. (B).
- Remove the handle (C).
- Unscrew the old valve (D) using a 17 mm spanner or a suitable adjustable one. Bear in mind that it might take some initial force to free the valve if it has been in place for some time.
- Screw the valve into its correct location (you will be replacing with a 1212R Hot or 3819R Hot depending on your own installation guide or age of your Tap. Please see below for more details on the Hot Valve and pictures.
- Refit handle (C), tighten screw (B) with the slotted screwdriver and reposition index (A).
- Turn the hot water supply back on and check for leaks.
The manufacturers changed c.2013 from 1212R valve to 3819R valve. We prefer the earlier 1212R valve as a replacement as the seal underneath is a little larger (white seal) than the blue seal on the 3819R. So if you do not know which valve you have in your own tap, order the 1212R . [Just remember that it will look a little different than the 3819R , should it turn out that you have the later 3819R valve] . If you have an older model then we would definitely recommend ordering the 1212R as replacement.

If your Hot valve looks like this in the image below, then the brass bush is still attached and you will need to separate and reuse with the new valve, or if you cannot separate, then buy a new brass bush as well.

- To undo the housing I obtained a “Box Spanner” from Amazon – Silverline 589709 Metric set of 6 8-19mm cost £7.00. I bought a set as I was unsure of the size needed.
- This needs modifying as the box spanner is designed to use the inner 6 sided shape for nuts or bolts. Whereas to extract the housing, the outer 6 sided ‘flats’ are used. The photos will make this clearer.
- To modify the box spanner, select the nearest one that is just slightly too big to go into the housing, its about 15mm. Then file off the Flats until it fits.
It is important to only file the flats (not the angles) and to file all 6 flats equally. It won’t need much filing.

- Screw in the new valve (I) whilst ensuring the raised lug is aligned with the hole within the tap body.
